EcoVadis awards platinum rating to PostNL’s sustainability drive

PostNL once again earned platinum status this year, putting it into the top 1% of the total 75,000 companies rated by EcoVadis worldwide on their sustainability performances in the broadest sense.

Last year, PostNL first scooped the highest possible rating – platinum – which is awarded to just a single per cent of all companies rated. This year, PostNL scored no less than 90 out of 100 points on the environment.

The outcome has made Herna Verhagen, PostNL’s CEO, very proud: “Sustainability, in both environmental and social terms, is one of the key pillars of our strategy, and it’s a great achievement indeed to be awarded the EcoVadis platinum rating once more. This recognition provides certainty to our customers that we’re doing everything we can right now to deliver as sustainably as we can and that our people are fiercely committed to meeting the highest possible standards every single day.”

In addition to environmental issues, EcoVadis also assesses companies on human and labour rights, sustainable purchasing and business ethics. PostNL’s rating on human and labour rights was slightly down this year at 70 out of 100. In this area, PostNL continues to do well on such aspects as policies, measures and reporting, and the slight fall was attributable to the “360o watch”, which surveys information and opinions as expressed by external stakeholders such as the media, trade unions and NGOs.

EcoVadis is an international platform that rates companies on their sustainability and social responsibility performances. Every year, PostNL is subjected to an independent assessment by EcoVadis, which covers four areas: environment, human and labour rights, sustainable purchasing and business ethics. EcoVadis enables companies and organisations to compare suppliers on such aspects as sustainability and environment as well as social and ethical business practices. EcoVadis draws on global CSR standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact and ISO 26000.
