Festive season: PostNL is ready with extra delivery trips and ordering tips
Together, we’ll deliver the most wonderful time of the year
The Hague, 12 November 2024 – The festive season is fast approaching, and PostNL is once again ready to deliver millions of extra parcels across the country. The largest delivery company in the Netherlands is well-prepared for this busy period, especially with Black Friday and Sinterklaas falling close together this year. With more colleagues, additional delivery trips and an extra delivery day, everything is being done to ensure that gifts are delivered on time. At home, people can also get prepared for the holidays. To help track their parcels during this busy period and be sure of timely delivery, PostNL is sharing ordering tips, such as setting delivery preferences in the PostNL app.
PostNL prepares all year for the holiday rush, traditionally the busiest period for the e-commerce sector. From 28 locations across the Netherlands, delivery workers set out to deliver parcels nationwide. And over 1,000 additional people work at PostNL during this period. Extra lorries are deployed, and the parcel vans make more trips. On peak days, around 1,250 lorries are on the road, and delivery workers make around 6,000 trips daily to ensure everything is delivered on time. Sunday 1 December, two days after Black Friday, will be an extra delivery day to ensure as many gifts as possible can be delivered on behalf of Sinterklaas. During the festive season, PostNL employees will be working hard in both the mail and parcel sorting centres. Once again, office colleagues will be helping out with deliveries and sorting, so everyone in the company can make their contribution during this busy period.
Teamwork
"The holidays are a special time for everyone. And at PostNL, we’re well-prepared to handle the rush," says Stephan van den Eijnden, Director of E-commerce Commerce at PostNL. "With thousands of colleagues, we’re doing everything we can to make sure everyone has a wonderful holiday season. And as befits a time of celebration, we’ll complete this hefty task together. It’s important for online stores to spread out their sales campaigns. Consumers can then place their orders on time and receive them stress-free, by using our ordering tips. For example, by setting delivery preferences, consumers increase the likelihood of their parcels being delivered at the desired time. If people are not at home, we can still deliver the parcels to an agreed-upon location around the house or to a parcel locker. This means they can enjoy the gifts they’ve ordered at the right moment.”
Ordering tips
To make sure that gifts from Sinterklaas arrive on time, PostNL has provided a few tips for consumers:- Choose a delivery location: consumers can set their preferred delivery location via the PostNL app. This could be a parcel locker or a safe spot around the house, such as a shed or garden.
- Add a parcel buddy: consumers can appoint someone as a parcel buddy to follow and accept their parcels when they’re not home.
- Enable push notifications: by turning on notifications in the PostNL app, consumers will receive updates about the status of their parcel.
- Make changes to the delivery: if consumers are not at home on the delivery day, they can adjust the time or location of delivery via the PostNL app.
- Contact the delivery worker: If a parcel is marked as delivered but has not been received, consumers can contact the delivery worker via the feedback button in the app for more information.
With these tips and a team effort from PostNL, online stores and consumers, we’ll be sure that everyone can enjoy a carefree and festive December.
