PostNL app celebrates 10-year anniversary: The most used logistics app in The Netherlands
New feature launched this spring
The Hague, April 22, 2025 – Ten years ago, PostNL was one of the first logistics service providers in the Netherlands to launch an app. It allowed users to easily track their parcels and adjust delivery. Since then, the PostNL app has evolved into the digital heart of parcel delivery. In 2024, 5.9 million people used the app. They enjoy convenience, can contact their delivery driver, gain insights in their shipment, and choose where their parcel is delivered.

Parcel lockers on the rise as a favourite delivery option
Over the past ten years, the PostNL app has evolved into a smart and flexible delivery assistant. Last year, 5.9 million out of more than 9 million account holders used the app, with 2.3 million using it on a weekly basis. On average, users opened the app four times per week in 2024. Half of the app users have now set their delivery preferences — such as delivering to neighbours, a safe place around the house, a PostNL-point, or a parcel locker. The latter is rapidly gaining popularity: 7% of the current users with preferences opt for a parcel locker as their default, and overall usage of lockers has doubled over the past year.
Stephan van den Eijnden, Director of Commerce at PostNL: “Our delivery people are and will remain the face of PostNL. But the PostNL app is now just as important as a digital point of contact. What started as an idea of a post office in your pocket has become a platform that gives you control over your deliveries. And we are not stopping here. We continue to invest in new features, more options, greater user-friendliness, and accessibility for everyone in The Netherlands and Belgium.”
Receivers who use the PostNL app are more satisfied, and PostNL is able to deliver parcels to them in the right place on the first attempt. This is partly due to push notifications and dynamic time windows that keep users informed about their delivery and let them know exactly when and where the parcel arrives. The app also offers the ‘package buddies’ feature, the ability to contact the delivery driver, an overview of expected mail via 'My Mail, and an innovation section where new features are tested. To enhance the user experience, a dark mode and support for Dutch, English, and French have been added. PostNL will continue investing in digitalization over the coming years to improve convenience for both customers and consumers.
New feature introduced this spring
Spring, with holidays like King's Day and Ascension Day, along with preparations for summer vacation, traditionally leads to a peak in online shopping. During this busy period, PostNL is introducing a new feature in the app: consumers can now set their favourite PostNL point as the default delivery location anywhere in the country. Previously, this was limited to a fixed PostNL-point near your home. Now, users can choose a different location such as one near work or a sports facility. This gives you control over where your package is delivered. When setting your delivery preferences, you can now easily select which PostNL-point your parcels should be sent to by default.
