People in the Netherlands send and receive less and less mail every year. In the past decade, mail volume has nearly halved, but the Dutch Postal Act has remained unchanged. PostNL is committed to keeping the postal service accessible, future-proof and financially healthy, but current postal legislation refrains PostNL from implementing further changes to the postal business model. Political decision-making on the future of the postal market is taking time to materialise, while the costs of the current service keep rising. Under the Dutch law, the provider in charge of the universal service obligation (USO) is entitled to receive compensation for the net cost of the service if this constitutes a disproportionate financial burden. PostNL therefore has requested temporary financial support from the Dutch government to be able to continue to carry out this essential public duty responsibly.

PostNL’s Supervisory Board announced to appoint Linde Jansen as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and member of the Board of Management. Linde Jansen will succeed Pim Berendsen, who will take over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from Herna Verhagen after the Annual General Meeting of shareholders (AGM) on 15 April 2025. Following the AGM, Linde Jansen and Pim Berendsen will form PostNL’s two-person Board of Management.

PostNL announced today that Herna Verhagen has decided to step down as CEO after the Annual General Meeting of shareholders on 15 April 2025. On that day, she will formally hand over her responsibilities and duties to Pim Berendsen, the current CFO.

From 1 January 2025, PostNL will change the prices for sending parcels and stamps – new prices that are inevitable in the face of declining mail volumes. These new universal service obligation (USO) prices are within the scope granted to PostNL by its regulator ACM for 2025.
