PostNL and trade unions agree new PostNL CLA outcome: 7% pay rise
The Hague, the Netherlands, 15 October – PostNL and trade unions BVPP, CNV and FNV have arrived at a negotiated outcome on the new collective labour agreements (CLAs) for PostNL employees and for Saturday deliverers. The outcome includes a pay raise totalling 7%, from 1 July 2024. The total package of employment terms and conditions results in CLAs that are more in line with the market and is appropriate to PostNL's financial situation. Effective from 1 April 2024 and running until 30 June 2026, the new CLAs cover around 16,500 people.
Pay rise
The raise of a total 7% will be paid in stages: 2.5% from 1 July 2024, 1.5% from 1 January 2025, 1.5% from 1 July 2025 and another 1.5% from 1 January 2026. Youth pay from the age of 18 will end on 1 January 2025, and 18-, 19- and 20-year-olds will earn as much as 21-year-olds for the same jobs – an improvement for everyone.
CLAs for everyone that fit current needs
PostNL is looking to offer attractive and balanced employment terms to current and future employees and these new CLAs include a range of schemes fitted to the times and needs. For instance, annual employee contributions to pensions will increase to 7% from 6% from 1 January 2026 – which is also the date on which the new pension scheme will come into effect. Special parental care leave will be in place for adoptive and surrogate parents. No changes will be made to the commuter travel allowance scheme, but the allowance for purchasing a bicycle will go up to €1,000.
Sustainable work
PostNL feels it is important that its people can continue to work comfortably until their retirement age. For this reason, the new CLAs will make available 100 spots for PostNL’s sustainable working scheme known as Regeling Duurzaam Doorwerken (RDD). The scheme allows older employees to work less while partly retaining their salaries and pension accruals. A further 25 spots will likewise be created for a renewed version of what is known as Regeling Vervroegd Uittreden (RVU). This tailored scheme facilitates early retirement for up to three years before people’s state pension age.
What’s next
The trade unions will now put the outcome of the negotiations to their members. Following a positive response to the membership ballot, all agreements will be set down in the CLAs and signed. Earlier in the year (in March 2024), a new CLA was signed covering 15,000 mail deliverers.
