Why is it so busy?

The holidays are near. A time for being together and giving presents, which means more parcels for everyone. On the busiest days in the festive season, we expect twice as many parcels. We’re ready for the rush. But if we need to deliver more than expected, some parcels might take a bit longer. Check the PostNL app or track & trace to see if this affects you.

It’s also the busiest time of year for mail. We send each other Christmas cards or order gifts that fit through the letterbox. We’ve taken measures to process all this mail. But it’s currently too busy to process everything on time. Keep in mind that your mail may take an average of 2 extra days to arrive.

PostNL points packed: pick up your parcel soon!

Due to the rush, many PostNL points are completely packed with parcels. Have you received a message that we delivered your parcel at a PostNL point? Please pick it up as soon as possible! This helps us make room for incoming parcels.

Where is my parcel?

We strive to deliver your parcel the next working day, but sometimes this is not possible. In track & trace, you might see different messages:

  • Your parcel is (almost) with PostNL.
During busy periods, it may happen that we have not yet scanned your parcel. In track & trace, it will then show that your parcel is (almost) with us. As soon as we start processing your parcel, you will receive new updates in track & trace. We advise you to wait for these updates.
  • Unknown Delivery Time
Some parcels are still awaiting delivery. In track & trace, it will show that the delivery time is unknown. We understand this can be confusing. As soon as we start to deliver your parcel, you will receive a new notification. Therefore, we advise you to wait a few more days.

How can I make sure my Christmas cards arrive on time?

As from Monday, December 16 we expect the busiest days due to all the Christmas cards. We recommend sending your Christmas cards before Wednesday, December 18. That way, you can be sure your cards will arrive on time.

How did you prepare for the rush?

We’re doing everything we can to get your parcels delivered on time. Here’s what we’ve put in place:

  • 300 additional trucks on the road.
  • Early and late shifts at our sorting centres to keep parcels moving.
  • Collaborations with online stores to help spread the demand.
  • An increase of 1,500 delivery runs, raising our daily total to around 4,500.

According to track & trace, my letterbox parcel has been delivered, but it hasn’t. What now?

It may occur that a letterbox parcel is delayed but still scanned as 'delivered.' This is a mistake. In this case, track & trace will show that your parcel has been delivered when it hasn’t. No worries: there is a good chance that we will deliver your parcel in the coming days. Therefore, we recommend waiting a few more days.
